I twisted my ankle and a week later it's purple bruised around ankle after walking on it?
I twisted my ankle in a pot hole when I was jogging and it really hurt. The first night I couldn't slepe because it was so much pain to have the blankets weighing down on it and I couldn't move it to the right side because it would ache. A week later it still hurts, I need to walk on it, that's unavoidable but now I noticed there's bright purple bruising and the vein in my foot is bulging? Could it be possible its more than a simple sprain? Thanks.
itll probably be a severe sprain if its purple round it. a sprain can include minor tears of the tendons. if thats the case, the pain in your foot is explained. i had tears in my achilles (though they repaired on their own thankfully) and the pain in bed was as you explained.
id go to the doctor and get them to check it out because they will be able to tell if the tears (if they are tears) will heal on their own or if they need reattaching. as a result of the examination, you may be sent for an ultrasound to see what actual damage has been caused.
if its very painful to walk on, id suggest not doing. id walk as little as possible which is the advice they gave me last februray. you will only prelong the injury.
in bed, rest your foot at a 45 degree angle on a couple of pillows, and out of the sheets if that helps. this will keep blood from settling there. in future, make sure after an injury of this sort, you put the leg upright immediately, and leave it like that all day. this will stop the swelling which happens during the first 24 hours of a sprain.
