can I use regular cotton braided split reins with slobber straps?
I got a pair of mecate reins off of e-bay and when I got them they were really dissapointing. They are made out of sisal rope(whatever that is). They are to light and skinny and frankly they suck. I am in the process of starting to ride my 3 yr old gelding and I just couldnt get the response I wanted out of him.
Luckily I didnt pay to much for them, should have been a clue.
Anyway, I have a nice pair of braided cotton splitreins I can use until I can get a real pair of mecate reins. Will the work well with the slobber straps? They do have snaps on the ends.
Let me know your thoughts, and does anyone have a good website that i can purchase a pair of Mecate's for a decent price. I dont have a ton to spend.

The split reins are flat braided, and maybe two inches thick? Just a guess but maybe that will help.
Yeah for sure, not as well but they get the job done!
