what does a full cheek bit do?
(english riding) what does a full cheek bit do??? slow the horse down? what??? it can b loose ring or whatever dont get all annoying about how im not being speciffic enough just tell me what it does thanks
The full cheeks keep the bit centered in the mouth, preventing it from being displaced sideways through the mouth. They also assist in signaling the horse for lateral movements by applying pressure against the side of the muzzle opposite to the direction of a turn.
If you use bit keepers on the upper cheek bars, which attach it to the cheek straps of the bridle, it creates slight leverage on the poll when the reins are engaged.
