Gaited horse questions?

1. So I have to use a cutback saddle for showing, but would a dressage saddle (that fits) be good for trail and some schooling? In that, it will be able to gait easily.
2. I have a whole book of conditioning for horses. It is directed more at trotting horses though. How can I translate exersizes for trotting horses to gaited breeds? Like for say trotting up hills, would that be like a running walk on a twh?
3. I really want to do competitive trail and LD endurance, and I also want to show in some flat shod classes. I don't have a trainer for gaited horses, so is it something that I can do by myself, with general riding lessons not necessarily directed at showing gaited horses?
Any other tips or opinions on gaited horses are welcome!
I have ridden dressage and hunt seat, so I know english well. I have just never ridden gaited.

1. Yes, a proper fitting dressage should be fine. Dressage saddles are actually somewhat similar to a cutback, in that they want the shoulder to have maximum movement, so the pommel is cut back some.
2. Yeah, I would say so. It is kind of confusing. Some exersizes though you can skip if they aren't that uber important, and are directed at trotting horses.
3. Everyone I know that has a twh or rocky mtn or whatever doesn't take lessons from a gaited trainer. They just take lessons where ever, or not at all. For showing, the only thing that would be different is making sure your hands, legs, all that are in the correct position. You could probably learn this by watching youtube and/or some books.
