What bit should I use for barrel racing?
I have a 5year old quarter horse that is just startting to do barrels. She was trained to show and seems to never have run. When I try or my boyfriend tries to make her run she will get to her show gate then when we try to make her run she will start to buck and carry on. Ive tried different tyoes lf bits but none will work. She'll either get her tounge over the bit or
she'll she throw her head. What should I do?
Try asking this in the Pet's Category > Horses. This category is for people who race horses. The Horse Section is a sports and advice section for all horse owners/riders. There are a lot of people who show in all disciplines.
Most horses, especially show horses, are not trained to run. It's not the bit, it's you. You must train her how to run. I would take her to a barrel/speed event trainer.
Might try a curb strap to keep the bit over her tongue.
