How does a western walk trot pleasure horse show work?

How do the judges judge you and the horse?
Do I have to wear anything special? (female)
Should I braid her mane?
Any special helmet or boots I have to wear?
Any tips/ comments?

Its my first show

The level of the show will determine a lot about what you should do and wear. I take it this is most likely a small show not a breed show or you would know more.
-For riding classes they are going to look at how your horse moves and if she does what is asked. They will announce what gate (walk, jog(trot) or lope (canter)) they want you to do. You need to follow the instructions. They will want to see your horse under control and since you are riding western they will want to see your horse very slow and collected. If you do equitation or horsemanship then they will look at how you sit in the saddle, are you still and is your position correct.
Well seeing how it is your first show I would not go out and buy any expensive show clothes.
-You can wear a nice pair of black jeans that are long enough when you sit they still come down over your boot a bit. You can wear a pair of regular ankle high riding boots. As for a shirt I am sure if you have a nice button down shirt with a collar it will look nice. -For the mane it depends on the breed and the length. If it is really long and nice you can just brush it out and let it go free. If it is shorter then you should band it. Here are some instructions on how to band. http://www.showhorsepromotions.com/banding.htm
-Well I am not sure your age or level of the show. In my state (vermont) minor (under 18) have to wear a Helmet at 4H shows. It is a law. It does not matter what you are showing. Also it depends what your parents will let you. If you show western you can also wear a western hat. You need something on your head so if you do not have a western hat then you should wear your helmet. Also normal black riding boots should be fine. The ones that are ankle length not the tall english boots.
-You will have to bathe and clean your horse up until she/he shines and has no more stains. Also clean your tack so that it looks nice also. Get to the show early so you have plenty of time to get ready and prepare.
