What is the difference between a snaffle bit and a little Tom Thumb?
My horse has a small mouth, if the trainers at my barn I said I should get a net. I am currently I use a Tom Thumb and when im riding my horse carries his head high and if we gallop and I ask him to slow down, it starts to buck. I rode last weekend in the Tom Thumb with very little contact on his mouth and he was fine, but I want to follow my advice of trainers. So basically, I want to know the difference between a net and Tom Thumb. Thank you. Also my friend rode my horse before I owned it and she used a net and told me he was fine, and never chomped the bit, he does all the time now! Tow who had been in direct contact (sorta tight reins) both were sectioned, and the other held the reins very loose and thin hewas. A snaffle bit is any bit that attaches the reins in direct line with nozzle, or cannons. The bill is called the pivot. So if you agree the reins, they make a direct line from the mouth of the drill bit through the reins and your hands, you use a snaffle bit. The beak can be any of several varieties, including strong and joined. A clamp jaw lever means ... he has the levers that significantly increase the forces applied against the pin (spokesman) of the wick. The levers are called the legs and buying. The lever that extends downward from the mouth is called a stem, and one that extends upward the mouth (the cheek strap attaches to) is called the purchase. The total length of this lever determines the amount of force multiplied placed on the mouth of horses whenever you engage the reins. All bits reduce forces apply leverage to the jaw, tissues of the mouth, and the poll. A little Tom Thumb tailed and purchase, and must be used with a curb chain / strap. It's a bit horrible. The American cowboys who invented this version have been confused and thought thread articulate spokesperson for ..... hence the name. It is time we stop being sold this way and confuse people who are new to riding. Call it what ... an articulated mouth slightly reduce .... not a "pretty soon", as some think, but a bit harsh with little to offer in the way of achieving clear signals to our horses.
