What kind of saddle do I use for trail riding if my horse prances?
My horse is a Prancer and im going to use mainly for its horseback riding .... So what type of saddle would be best for us? I rode English. I can easily return to the West though. What type of saddle for Prancer on the trails .... Western or English?
Personally, I am more secure in a Western saddle when things get tough, especially when the horse ride. Not everyone feels the same, however. So I guess you should ask yourself what you feel the saddle more stable and secure if your horse starts to really ACT UP. The disadvantages of an English saddle in a crisis are: 1) beats the stirrups and give you less stability 2) You do not have a horn to hang on if necessary. So I would say a good western saddle, but make sure you are comfortable in the arena of the west before heading out to the runway. I would also consider what the bridle, bit and the type of brake will help more with this special horse. In most cases, I trail ride with a snaffle bit. I do not know if this is the best choice for your horse wants to prance or not. A little leverage might make him feel too confined and trapped and make things worse, or it could give you a little more control. One thing I really prefer when you Trail riding is a rope at home mecate Rein, the guy with a loop (so you do not drop the reins if your horse riding or shaking your hand) and extra room which is handy if you get off and lead. I use split reins often, but if things get complicated, I am always aware that they can easily fall if my horse bolts, stumble or look up. Good luck and stay safe. I recommend helmet at all times, too, especially if your horse is a Prancer.
