Does anyone know what could be causing my hands to turn red and burn?
I work as a STNA in a nursing home and wear gloves all of the time, but they are latex-free. I've tried powered AND powder-free and I have the same reaction. My hands are red from my wrist to my knuckles and they burn when I take my gloves off. It takes forever for the redness to go away too.
It's a type of dermatitis. It's because you wash your hands too much at work...not that you have a choice in your profession. Washing your hands dries out the skin. The skin cracks, the redness is many tiny cracks in the skin and that is why it burns. You need a medicated, alcohol free lotion. Especially now that it is winter. Stay away from hand sanitizer.
