twisted snaffle on a parelli horse?

I just got a new horse. He was used as a barrel horse and is very calm. He's a bit spooky, but it's not bad. He's a pretty level-headed horse. His previous owner rode him in a twisted snaffle bit. Since I have been using Parelli, I switched to a regular snaffle, hoping that would be enough. Well apparently it isn't. He has a bit of a stopping problem. It's not serious, but it just takes him a few extra steps to come to a stop. He's bucked me off twice so far. And I'm beginning to think I need to switch back over to the twisted snaffle. Is that ok to do on a Parelli horse? I'm a level two student. The horse doesn't have a 'hard-mouth', but he's not totally sensitive either. He's just an average horse who needs some tuning up. What should I do about the bits?

IMO you should go to a single link or French link snaffle, and find a trainer (a good, experienced trainer, i.e., not a parelli-disciple) to help you do a little retraining.
