Do I post in a western saddle when trotting?
I just wanted to know if that was typical, I'm working up to a trot in western discipline, and I've never trotted before in a western saddle. I've ridden school horses and trail horses trained western but I never trotted with one because they took too long to get going. You don't have to tell me show rules because I don't have to know for that quite yet, but just tell me what you guys do.
Well, most western horses that are shown are taught a slow, collected trot, called a jog. But if you can get then into an extended (faster) trot, go for it! Posting makes riding easier on you, especially if the horse has a bouncier trot. It's also nice for the horse because you can really help relieve pressure on his back if you post correctly. Posting also will help him get into a faster trot.
